Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze qualitative research papers published in domestic journals related to nursing to identify research trends and suggest directions for qualitative research.

Methods: Three hundred and ninety-five qualitative research articles published in domestic registered and candidate journals from 2011 to 2020 were analyzed for overall characteristics, research subjects, data collection methods, data analysis methods, and research topics.

Results: As a result of the study, first, qualitative research showed a sharp increase in 2017. After that, decreases and increases were repeated. Methodologically, phenomenological research was used as the major research methodology. Second, the subjects of the study were mainly nurses and nursing students. Interviews were mainly used as the data collection method. As a data analysis method, phenomenological research used Colaizzi, narrative inquiry used Clandinin and Connelly, ethnography used Spradley, and grounded theory used Strauss and Corbin. Third, regarding the research topics, the experience of participating in the program, disease experience, nursing experience and work experience were high.

Conclusion: This study presented implications based on the research results and discussed the future direction of qualitative research in the field of nursing.
